What is a Cookie?
  • A "Cookie" is text information sent to your web browser by a website you visit. The web browser stores this data on your computer and later returns that same text information to the website. This is how some websites "remember" your previous visits, logins or preferences. A website can only access the information it stores -- not information stored in other Cookies by any other website.
Are Cookies dangerous to my computer?
  • No. A Cookie is a simple piece of text. Cookies are not programs or plugins, they cannot be used as a virus and cannot access your hard drive.
Can I stop the Cookies from being set?
  • Yes. We do not require that a user allow the placement of Cookies in order to access our website. However, certain services that enhance and customize your visit depend on Cookies. While annoying, you can set your web browser to notify you each time a Cookie is set or so that it will not accept Cookies at all. Search for "Cookies" in your web browser's "Help" contents for specific instructions and information about Cookie settings.
Can I look at my own Cookie or delete it?
  • Yes. You can find your own Cookie file on your hard drive and see what kind of information is being stored, and by which websites. You can also delete the file(s), if you wish (which, of course, effectively deletes all the Cookies that were stored there). Internet Explorer stores Cookies in a folder called "Cookies". For Windows users with Netscape or Firefox, look for a "cookies.txt" file. On the Macintosh, look in the System Folder under Preferences; it's called "MagicCookie".
